PPC Still Gone – Naturals Down – Low Season for Adsense

November 22nd, 2010

Well for of our niche blogs late November and December is the slow season. The traffic is much later than March-September, the CTR drops, and on top of that Google starts paying less. Seen this pattern for over half a decade now, and it doesn’t look like that is going to change.

Of course, if you own some blog that gets over 5,000,000 page loads a month, then you are not having to worry about paying the bills. For us it’s getting to be just that. We’re still making it right now, but if so much as one blog gets “hurt” on an algorithm change a Google, then well….I’m either getting a new job, or we’re selling the big house and the RV. Boo-hoo-hoo…..rough life.

Today being Monday is usually a pretty big day for Adsense earnings, with a total of $180 – $250 day, but as of right now at 9:14 Pm our total is $105.78. Used to be that was still great Money in Canadian dollars after the currency exchange between the USD Google bucks, but currently there is not a big difference in the dollar (thanks to the crooks on Wall Street). Used to be great living up here in Canada. Our dollar was as low as $64 cents to the USA dollar, and when we got a $6500 USD check from Google it was a big yippee!.

So we’re not selling the house yet. We’re gonna see what happens in January first to see if we’re making enough Adsense money from all our blogs.

Of course MSN Adcenter is still dicking around with one of our sites making their “judgement” on whether it will be accepted into their list of Advertisors. Love to tell them to just go fuck themselves, but we still need the PPC action a little longer before we go totally organic.

PPC is like a drug – a false sense of security. You’re at the mercy of their system and their ever changing policies and they can wipe out half your business overnight. That is what happened to us with the Adcenter Transition, and I’ve been scrambling to keep the Internet income coming ever since. Sometimes I wish I had never used PPC at all – it would have forced me to really pull it together and get allot more natural traffic to my blogs.

Oh well – it was a really good ride, and I know that most blog publishers are making allot less than $3700 or so dollars each month. Tomorrow I’ll get back into the swing of writing some posts. I was so pissed with today’s numbers and Adsense CTR that I only did one 700 word post.

Later.

You Don’t Need to Promote a Niche Blog

November 18th, 2010

I know that all the experts tell you that you need to promote your blog, but I have a different view on the subject. I always hated promoting any of my blogs because I don’t like the “boys club” gig. Not one little bit. I don’t want to suck up to other bloggers, and I don’t intend to ever spend my time begging to be in some club. Maybe you hate that too.

No-one is going to have control over whether I get traffic and whether or not I succeed at making a full time living online. Besides, I make my money from niche blogs, and good luck finding some great blog and the corresponding blog owner that is willing to link to your new blog that is ALL ABOUT widget 842?! Ain’t gonna happen. So what do you do.

Simple – write.

All my most successful niche blogs make all of our online income each month with Adsense only, and NONE of them are promoted to in any way. I just write on them once a day. Fairly quickly the search engines come spidering and botting, and alas — search engine traffic comes, and keeps growing as long as I add new content.

Just make sure you go LONG TAIL on that baby – OK.

Adsense Click Earnings – Very Little to Very Big

November 14th, 2010

Highest Paying Adsense Click EverSo this morning being Sunday, plus for whatever reason we were seeing extremely low traffic in our Statcounter account(s) – so low in fact that I thought that my main blog for bread winning had been de-ranked and punished by the Google Gods. When I checked out all of the usual keywords that this blog was strong on I was fine. Number #1 in Google and Yahoo/Bing and competing with 125 million pages, etc.

I was still strong in all the usual keywords we get our traffic from. So my only guess is that just like last Sunday, nobody is on the Internet looking for products and services in the particular niche. Oh well – hope tomorrow is a big Monday again. Read the rest of this entry »

Customized WordPress Theme White as Milk

November 13th, 2010

So I made a fairly solid change to my theme today using White a Milk. Kinda cheesy sure, but I like the GPS look. I’m using one of my favorite themes which I use on my niche blogs. Long ago I discovered that I like really clean and simple WordPress themes. They load faster, and they are muck easier to customize. Read the rest of this entry »

What it Takes to Make it as a Full Time Blogger

November 12th, 2010

Well another busy day at the keyboard working two of my niche blogs. I’ve completed two fresh posts this AM and it’s ten o’clock right now. Each post is over 1000 words and each one includes a picture and of course a “strategic title” for the post. Read the rest of this entry »

Learning to be a Content Monster – Power Blogging

November 11th, 2010

So since we can’t use PPC anymore to make a full time living we are going to have to learn how to be content monster going forward. When all the PPC traffic stopped we knew we were in trouble, but after two short weeks that were very busy and kind of fun, we are starting to come back again. Read the rest of this entry »

Blog Post Title Keyword Variations

November 8th, 2010

Five different niche blog posts today. Ranging from 500 words to 900 each. Each post was zeroed in on a very specific set of keywords. I’ve found that creating a fairly long title with keywords that can then be used in many different combinations pays off big. Read the rest of this entry »
