Top 1 Tip For Creating a Successful Blog

First of all, I understand that successful blogging means different things to different people. Some think a successful blog is one that has allot of traffic and readers. Some think that a successful blog is one that makes allot of money. Either way, a successful blog is one that has allot of traffic and allot of readers.

I’ve read many different accounts on what makes for successful blogging. I was always very interested in what made a blog succeed, and most importantly what made them lucrative. I’ve been at this for over 5 years now, and I have finally succeeded in bringing a blog up to a high traffic level, and making it very lucrative. (not this mish-mash cluster fuck blog – this is the first blog I created, and only makes $150 a month). What I learned from all of my failures, and final success, was a two stage process. I know that this post is entitled Top 1 Tip For Creating a Successful Blog, and I have already mentioned two stages. There is only one thing to do when creating a successful blog nowadays. I will point out the two stages of long term blogging success first, and then explain the one and only tip for creating it.

Stage Two of Successful Blogging

Stage two is usually where the successful bloggers start when they tell you their tips for creating traffic and making money. Successful bloggers talk about the social aspects of a blog, including the use of technology, web gadgets, and the art of engaging their readers and visitors. Successful bloggers talk about the use of link baiting, and the art of writing for people not search engines. Successful bloggers talk about networking with other bloggers, posting on other blogs, joining forums, participating in blog carnivals, and on it goes. But all of these things cannot happen unless you have a solid footing with your blog in the first place. It’s hard to network and join a boys or girls club, when you don’t bring to the conversation your own talents. How do you do that – write.

Top 1 Tip For Creating a Successful Blog – Just Write

The successful bloggers will tell you allot about using the right blogging platform, such as TypePad, WordPress Standalone (which this blog is), Free WordPress at WordPress.com, or Free Blogger at Blogspot.com. This a good discussion, but you any one of the above choices are fine, except maybe the free WordPress option because you can’t display ads on your pages the same way as the other platforms. If your definition of success is making money then the choice of platform is important, but if we stick to my definition of a successful blog, any of the above choices will work. Why – because you just need to write.

[ad#posts]Successful bloggers will also tell you that you are best to create a blog on something you are passionate about. This makes sense, but what if your definition of a successful blog is one that makes money, and your passion is the worst niche for profit on the planet – then you need to find something else to write about. There will be those that argue ANY niche subject will create profit when it has massive traffic, but lets face it, tidily winks blogging won’t likely pay any bills. My point is that you need write about profitable niches. About things that people need on a daily basis. But if you definition of a successful blog is high traffic and search engine domination, you can write about anything you want. Keyword here is write.

You can obviously see the pattern here – my big #1 tip for creating a successful blog is to write. You may say, “Yeah, but there is more to it than that”. I say no there is not. To create a successful blog you just need to write. All of the stage two aspects of successful blogging will come into play once you have created a successful blog. In the beginning you just need to write.

Write long posts, short posts, and sometime no posts. Don’t worry about writing 3 posts a day either. Just write fresh content from your own thoughts, and NEVER copy paste any large chunks of content and post it on your new blog. Don’t even worry about blogging allot on other blogs either. Don’t worry about creating great inbound links either. Just write.

It’s that simple now, and this is why. The search engines, blog platforms, social bookmarking sites, and pinging services are very sophisticated now, and getting more sophisticated every day, week, month, and year. If you write a fresh piece of content on your blog, it will get found. If your write with any kind of frequency (1-2 good posts a week), you will be found and indexed eventually. Some will say that you have to have inbound links coming or you will never get anywhere – wrong. If you start a new blog with any of the platforms listed above, and write fresh content from the recesses of your own mind, then your posts WILL be indexed in the search engines, and all of those pages indexed will grow your ranking, and it turn your traffic. Then you will find that other bloggers are more than willing to join your discussions, carnivals, and projects. I compare it to a kid wanting to join a club, sports team, band, etc. If you show up on the scene and have a well developed skill or gadget, you will have respect from the get go. Then it’s just a natural thing for you to grow your networking skills. In the beginning you need to just write. If you are in a rush to be indexed in the search engines, by all means make some posts on other like minded blogs, but if you are patient the search engines will find your blog anyway.

So ignore the Google green bar, linking strategies, blog carnivals, pinging, link baiting, etc. Just write. Make sure you write a post once and awhile that is a fairly lengthy. One that is stupid long up in the range of 2000-3000 words long. You may say, “My god, that is allot of work”. Maybe from the outside looking in it seems like allot of work, but once you start to flow, it’s easy to do.

So keep on writing those 3-4 short 300-400 words post or 1 1500 word post a week, and watch your rank and traffic will grow and grow and grow. Before you know it other bloggers will start to link to your blog, blog about your blog, and leave comments on your blog. Then it’s very easy for you to join the clubs out there and the clubs will embrace you as a serious blogger.

Have fun and WRITE! Good things will come your way.
