Now That Jerry Falwell is Dead…is The Moral Majority Alive?
Many of the left-leaning people in the US and around the world may have only heard of Jerry Falwell and “The Moral Majority” via the movie, The People Versus Larry Flynt, which would not be an accurate picture for sure. To sum up Falwell with how he was portrayed in the film would be injustice in action.
I admit to being a left-leaner myself, but no so much that I consider the right side of aisle as plain evil. I think Falwell was a most interesting figure in United States history, and his death on May 17, 2007 ushers in a new time.
With the ’08 election looming and the Bush camp dragging the Republican name, and the United States through the mud (bloody mud at that), the Falwell titled Moral Majority is in dire need of a new leader, a new platform, and a really big megaphone. Yes, the Moral Majority was formally disbanded in 1989, but their still out their friends.
Your humble narrator can see them lurking in the night white-knuckling bibles, guns, and Falwell bobble-head dolls. Oh yes, they’re out their now and they’re registering more of their flock to vote then ever before. This group is still a power-house, as seen by the way some the running candidates are sucking up to the so-called Christian Coalition.
I know this sounds naive, but there are some liberal dreamers that actually believe the right-wing factions are washed up. Nothing could be further from the truth. They’re simply in the down swing, and they’re bedding down with their high quality cheese for a few years.
I believe that Bush and the boys have really hurt the Republicans, but so did the last Dick in the late sixties and early seventies. The cycle goes on and the time-space continuum in Washington just keeps swirling around.
When the Dems get in they’ll piss off allot of people too – like they always do. They’ll tax and spend very likely, and someone will be sticking their cigars where they don’t belong, and before you know it…….the boys in blue will be jumping all over them.
So just in case my fellow left-wingers were thinging we won’t be seeing the Republicans “reloading” guess again. Lest we forget! Yep!!!!!
