Can You Make A Living Just From Blogging?

Good question. I believe you can, but you need to listen to what other successful bloggers have done to achieve a considerable income just from one blog. The blog you are reading is just one of over 15 blogs I’m associated with, and take part in. This blog is brand spankin’ new – the bubble wrap has just recently been removed – but I assure you that 18 months past the date of this post, it will be earning $200-$300 a day with zero expenses. You may think that is a bold statement, but not to me, because I know what the search engines are looking for, and more importantly, what many people are looking for. I’ve also seen the results of my other blogs, and sites, so all this is no surprise to me. In this article I want to list off all the techniques and methods I will use to achieve my goal.

Resolution
The first thing I’ll need is resolution. I will set my earnings goal of $200-$300 per day in 18 months and that is final. No prickly breeze blowing through my life is going to stop me from carrying out my goal. If I’m still healthy enough to type on a computer keyboard I will not stop doing what I have to do in order to create that income. I understand that the ability stick with something is trait that few people have, and that is why I will succeed. There are many that will tell you that in order to make a full time living with just one blog, you need to be a computer geek, software or application writer, wiz kid, coding nerd, etc. Not true. Thanks to blogging formats like WordPress, almost anyone can create a successful blog if they stick to it. I think the only people that fail to make a full time living from blogging, simply quit. You see this with all facets of life. It’s so cliche, but the it simply comes down to consistent effort.

Choose A Theme For Your Blog
Ok. So I have decided to commit yourself to your goal, and nothing is going to stop you from the end state of being making a full time living from your blog. Great. Now decide what your blog is going to be all about. I say all about, because in order for you to succeed, you will need to look at all aspects of your theme or topic. Make sure your range of topic is not too narrow. For instance, this blog (Zulit) has a theme and that theme is freedom. The most important thing in my life, mind, heart, and soul – is freedom. Freedom to wake up every morning of your life without anyone, or anything, on my back. No worries of where your money is coming from, and no reason to be listening to a boss or company telling me what to do with my day. I would risk anything to have that kind of freedom. So of course one of the main topics of this blog will be the creation of multiple streams of income via the Internet, as I believe the best way to achieve financial freedom is with online income. Of course I will be discussing all forms of freedom, including freedom from oppression, anxiety, fear, stress, etc. etc. I would not go as far as to say this blog will be a self help blog, but the there could be some parallels.

Schedule Of Writing
Your writing schedule is important, just it is for all writers. We need to setup a schedule and stick to it. I have my schedule on my laptop desktop, so I’m reminded of the daily tasks and goals I need to complete. As far as how much to write in length of posts, and the frequency of the posts, I like to make sure there is at least on post a day. The length of each post can be random, and so it should be. Of course it’s important that your posts are original and not just rehashed from somewhere else, but there is nothing wrong with covering subjects that have been covered before. There is a lot of technical theory surrounding blogs, and I will get into that next post, but I think the most important trait you need to have is simply consistent posting of quality content. I understand that to be a daunting task in itself for many people, but if you choose your blog topic properly, you can find endless fodder for posting.

Make sure the topic of discussion is something you have a personal passion for, or you will soon dry up and the blog will blow away. You may think there is nothing you feel passionate about, and if so, I disagree with you. Don’t disregard all your life experience as mere happenstance – NOTHING is a coincidence in your life, and you should have a wealth of knowledge. Look at your life, and you will likely see a pattern in everything you have done right up to this day. Don’t dismiss the obvious; that very fact that you are reading this means you are alive and breathing, and capable of assimilating information online. Don’t be swayed into thinking that you don’t have the technical ability to succeed in your goal to make a full time living from one blog.

Next post I will be talking about some of the Technical aspects of actually creating your blog(s), the choices in platforms, hosting, and domains. You will notice that I am not selling anything in most all my posts, and yet I’m telling you have the goal is $200-$300 dollars a day in 18 months or less. That is because my goal is not to flog products – my goal s create traffic and readership. First comes traffic and readership, then comes monetization. Yes, there are Google Adsense contexual ads, and a few eBooks on Zulit.com, but I’ll guarantee you this blog won’t produce any real income for at least 6 months. I’ll also guarantee you that this blog will only be making around $15-$30 dollars a day in 6-7 months. It’s after that we start spooling up.

Your passion for this subject REALLY comes through. While I don’t plan on giving up on my family blog I also see that it will never produce any sizable income. So, at your behest the search for a marketable topic begins. Thanks Terry.

No problem Brent. Take a good look at my blogroll because Steve, Darren, and Yaro all make good money from their blogging activites. They all talk about how their income progressed year at a time, one month, one week, one day, and one post at a time. If you do it right you can grow a trickle of income a day into a good chunk of income a day.

what do you make of the rss feeds? they let visitors read your content without actually visiting the site. which in turn takes them away from your ads. is it better to just disable RSS?

    Thanks.

  4. terryzulit Says:

No Victor. RSS feeds are needed to keep a readership coming back to read, browse, learn, etc. It’s all about creating a sense of online community.

Right now this blog is so new that I’m just writing basic, and base articles.

Once a sense of community is established profit is just a bi-product.
