Enhancing Conversion Rate

Here is an article submitted by Dan Lambart. Conversion is king and content is king……right……..right!

As an internet marketeter, what do you want? More visitors or more customers? The answer is quite obvious. You need to question yourself if you are making the effort needed to convert visitors into customers. You must identify the reasons for low conversion, what is lacking in your site?

You might have optimised your site through use of good key words, got a high position on the search engine but if your sales and profits have not increased then you need to check whether you are working in the right direction. To start with it, you need to take a close look at your web site. Well the first point you need to check is whether you have made your web site search engine friendly or reader friendly. Most of us make this mistake of optimizing our web site for the search engines. The search engines are however not going to buy your products or services, you want a real buyers for it. The search engines only provide you a platform where you can display your web site and its products. When you optimize your web site keep the reader in mind and not the search engine.

Quality information with relevant content always make the visitors ask for more information about your products and services. Over selling on your web site will never help. All the sales pitch that you use will not hold the visitors on your web site any longer than they wish to stay. Only by providing quality content you can catch the attention of your visitors for a longer period. You must identify and answer all probable questions that visitors may have and then subtly present your products and services. Believe very strongly in the adage “Content is King”.

The purpose of an online business is to sell. If you want to have a very successful business then you must understand your customers’ requirements. Study the keywords that they used to search for your products, whether they are finding solutions to their problems. You must also check which pages they are visiting most and from which pages they are leaving your site. With some research you can find out whether you are making it easy for the customer to navigate your site or whether you are frustrating them with unnecessary detail.

The moment you find out the problem with your site, make the corrections immeditely. Keep monitoring your web site on a regular basis and make it user-friendly. When you follow a consistent process of self analysis and improvement of your web site you can expect good results in conversion of your visitors to customers.

Tutorial On Setting Pictures In Wordpress

UPDATE: Disregard all below. Download and install the Wordpress plugin called Image Manager

Had a few people asking how to upload pictures in their Wordpress blog posts. The following tutorial shows how I do it.

First of all, make sure your image is not MASSIVE. I use an image editing program to size my images down to a reasonable size. I like to size my images at around 300 x 300 pixels or less. This way your pages won’t load like tractors. If you don’t have an imaging editing program you can download this free image editing program. They ask you to register with an email. You can skip the part that asks you for more personal information, and the program will still work. I won’t go into anything further with image editing. That can be a little fun project and adventure to go on.

Once you have your image sized to 300 x 300 or less put it on your desktop for easy access. You can store them somewhere else after you have this tutorial down pat. Now login to your Wordpress admin area, and click “write a new post”.

Once you have the new post open, title it and enter your text. Once you have your text (post) complete, click the “save and continue editing” (this saves your work while you get ready to load your image) Now click the “browse” button below your post area, and select the image you have on the desktop from the step above. Make sure you title your image as well, but don’t worry about the description (unless you want to of course). When you are ready click the “upload” button. You should see a thumbnail of the picture appear in the image upload area.

Now - drag and drop the image into your post area. I put it right before the first letter of the first word of the post. You will see the thumbnail picture appear in the post edit area. Once it’s there, click on it once and then click the “html” icon in your post toolbox (same place as the bold, italic, and hyperlink tools are) Look in the html code for the address of the uploaded image. It should look something like; http://www.yourblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/09/your-picture.thumbnail.jpg. Now copy/paste your image’s web address and close the “html” window.

Now click on the thumbnail and hit your delete key. (yes….delete the thumbnail that is in your post) Now set your curser just before the first letter of the first word of your post. Click the image tool icon in your post editing toolbox (beside the hyperlink icons and is the picture of a tree) Enter the image link that you copied from the step below, but shorten the link to http://www.yourblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/09/your-picture.jpg (notice how I removed the word “thumbnail” from the link. This way you get the full picture published on your post, and not the smaller thumbnail. Enter your image description and the alignment setting, and click the “insert” button. That should do it.

You may have to read this a few times and try it to get it right. If you’re new at this and have trouble, just ask questions in the comment section of this post.
